Avaliação de habilidade materna mensurada em diferentes categorias de matrizes nelore PO
The use of genetic improvement through animal selection has provided significant evolution of the desirable productive characteristics in beef cattle, the MP 120 characteristic that measures maternal production capacity is an essential characteristic in breeding herds, it is measured by weighing the progeny and correlated with the maternal ability of the mother. The present study aimed to evaluate the maternal efficiency of different categories through the weight at 120 days of the calves. To this end, 344 animals were evaluated in field research conducted between the months of November and December 2023 on a Farm in the Municipality of Vilhena – RO. The animals were on an extensive regime with pasture predominantly made up of Brachiaria. The super early category received protein supplementation 0.3% of body weight, the other categories mineral salt. The categories of super early, early secundiparous and multiparous were evaluated. Weighing’s were carried out with each contemporary group following management order, starting with the super early ones. At the end of the weighing, a calculation was carried out to find the category with the highest performance among those evaluated. The category that obtained the best MP 120 indexes were the multiparous sows weighing 135.97 kg, the second parity category with a weight of 126.16 kg and finally the super precocious ones that reached a weight of 112.5 kg. It is evident, therefore, that the growth factor overloads the production of super precocious and second precocious breeds, since the category presents a lower progeny weight at 120 days compared to other matrices.
