DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF CHLOROPHYLL SYNTESISED SOLAR CELL.

Currently, natural dye-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) have drawn enormous attention owing to their numerous advantages, such as cost-effectiveness, simple production systems, and eco-friendliness. The aim of this project was to conduct combined experimental investigations on potassium iodide and starch gel electrolytes for the conversion of photoelectrochemically synthesized solar cell extracts using chlorophyll (Azadirachta indica) as a natural dye photosensitizer for application in TiO2 based DSSCs. The optical properties and functional groups of the tin oxide-coated glass were determined using FTIR and XRD to determine the crystal size of the tin oxide. TiO2-based DSSCs containing I −/I3 − as a redox mediator and graphite-carbon-based microscopic substrate slide glass as a counter electrode, and the difference between the use of gel electrolyte and liquid electrolyte on the DSSC performance. Sandwich cells were made consisting of a working electrode in the form of a conductive glass ITO deposited with TiO2, which was sensitized by a dye of neem leaf extract; the opposite electrode in the form of a conductive glass ITO with candle smoke deposited; and the electrolyte in the middle of the two electrodes was liquid and one was gel. Both samples were irradiated with sunlight. We tested the characteristics of voltage-time and current-time in both samples as short circuit case and photo voltage evaluation on dye-synthesized solar cells, as well as investigation of the respective electrolytes. The current and voltage values for the cell were 33.33 µA /mm2 for the potassium iodide electrolyte test and 4.66 µA/mm2 for the starch gel electrolyte as the short-circuit case and 540 kVand180kV for the potassium iodide and starch gel, respectively. The results obtained for higher voltage and current values in samples with liquid electrolytes, but for the period of stability, the samples with gel electrolytes exhibited better performance.
