Avaliação qualitativa do bem-estar de equinos em centros de treinamento no estado do Rio Grande do Norte, Brasil

Animal welfare is crucial for the health and quality of life of animals, assessed across the domains of nutrition, environment, health, behavior, and mental status. However, there is a lack of studies on equine welfare in rodeo training centers. The observational study at 30 training centers in Rio Grande do Norte evaluated equine welfare using a form based on the five domains. Each domain had a maximum score of 20 points, totaling 100 points. The results indicated that all assessed centers-maintained welfare conditions ranging from neutral to extremely positive. This suggests management practices that promote equine welfare, demonstrating commitment to their health. Categorization based on assigned points allowed for monitoring and improving animal living conditions. The study emphasizes the importance of corrective and preventive measures to create a healthier and more conducive environment for equine welfare in rodeo contexts.
