A Study on the Management Mechanism of Data Assets in Enterprise Digital Transformation
Digital transformation necessitates enterprises to reconceptualize data as strategic assets requiring sophisticated management mechanisms. This study investigates how organizations develop and implement data asset management mechanisms through a multiple case study of six enterprises across financial services, manufacturing, and technology sectors. Through in-depth interviews and document analysis, four interconnected mechanisms emerged: automated discovery and classification systems, dynamic governance frameworks, intelligent value optimization engines, and adaptive integration architectures. Cross-case analysis reveals that successful data asset management depends not on isolated mechanism implementation but on their configurational integration, generating multiplicative performance effects. Organizations achieving full integration reported 240% performance improvements compared to 35-60% for those implementing mechanisms in isolation. The findings contribute to digital transformation literature by demonstrating how enterprises transform passive data repositories into active strategic resources through systematic management mechanisms.
