A comparative study of the effect of obturation technique on push-out bond strength of bioceramic sealer: an in vitro study

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate the push-out bond strength of CeraSeal bioceramic based sealer used with different obturation techniques. Materials and methods Thirty-six intact single-rooted mandibular premolars were used as the following: group I: CS/SC, group II: CS/CLC, and group III: CS/CWC. After root canal obturation, the roots were sectioned 1 mm thick slices starting at 3 mm from the root apex and subjected to a push-out bond strength using the universal testing machine, the mode of bond failure were examined at ×20 magnification. Results The highest bond strength was obtained with CS/SC with no significant difference with CS/CWC while it showed a significant difference with CS/CLC. The mixed mode of failure was the most common failure mode. Conclusions As advised by the manufacturer, CeraSeal bioceramic sealer is best applied in a single cone obturation technique to achieve a higher bonding strength to root canal dentine. Clinical relevance Increasing the success rate of root canal treated tooth could be enhanced by increasing the bonding ability of CeraSeal bioceramic sealer to dentin by using single cone obturation technique.
