Impact of different luting agents on vertical marginal gap and shear dislodging force of CAD/CAM occlusal veneer
Abstract Background The influential step in the process of ensuring the retention and durability of indirect restorations is cementation. Adhesively bonded restorations offer the advantage of sealing the margins of the restorations. The aim of this work was to evaluate impact of different recent luting agents on vertical marginal gap distance and shear dislodging force in nonretentive CAD/CAM occlusal veneer. Patients and methods Thirty extracted teeth were cut using linear precision saw 4 mm occlusal to the mesial cement–enamel junctions. The prepared surface of each tooth was scanned by digital scanner. Designing the veneer was done using software program then the file was generated to be milled using CAD/CAM milling machine. Group I: cementation was done using Calibra Veneer Esthetic. Group II: cementation was done using Smart Dentin Replacement. Group III: cementation was done using VisCalor bulk. All specimens were thermocycled, photographed using USB digital microscope then shear dislodging force test was done. Results There was a significant difference in marginal gap between groups II and III with higher results in group III. Nonsignificant difference was found between groups I and II with higher results in group II. Also, there was a significant difference in shear dislodging force between all groups ( P < 0.001) with highest results in group III. Conclusions Within the limitation of this study, Smart Dentin Replacement flow has better marginal adaptation but lower shear dislodging force.
