A Bridgeless TOTEM Pole Power Factor Converter for Two/Three Wheeler Electric Vehicles

Abstract Electric rickshaws are becoming more popular compared to traditional ones because they reduce fuel costs and require less maintenance due to the use of electric motors. The design and analysis of a 2.5 kW Bridgeless Totem Pole Power Factor Correction (BLTP-PFC) circuit are examined in this study. To charge the battery of an e-rickshaw, the 400V output from the converter is regulated to 65V. The converter’s design ensures unity power factor while maintaining a steady output voltage over a broad range of input voltages. To do this, the Power Factor Correction (PFC) circuit uses Continuous Current Mode (CCM). By actively adjusting the input current, the study highlights the usage of a PI control approach to guarantee unity power factor and lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Higher efficiency results from the converter’s bridgeless design, which number of switching devices in the current route. The performance is validated through simulations in MATLAB, considering both steady-state conditions and step changes in load.
