Trends in smart education research: a visualization analysis of core themes and findings
This study analyzes 323 articles from the Web of Science Core Database (2010-2025) using VOSviewer and CiteSpace tools to explore the dynamic evolution and core topics of intelligent education. The research reveals a three-phase development, from emergence to rapid application, with a compound annual growth rate of 127%. Key drivers include breakthroughs in AlphaGo technology, widespread smart classroom policies, and changes in educational needs during the pandemic. Six core research themes were identified, such as generative AI applications (like ChatGPT), learning analytics, and ethical risks. Notably, generative AI grew by 210% in the last two years, while ethical issues still account for less than 12%. The author collaboration network shows regional clusters, with 42% of research being independent. The analysis also highlights the dual influence of technological advancements and policy regulations on intelligent education research.
