Resilience of Evolutionary Algorithms to Aggressive Compilation Optimization

We analyze the effect that numerical instabilities arising from the use of aggressive compilation optimization modes have on the performance of an evolutionary algorithm. Using two different C++ compilers with six optimization levels targeting the x86_64 architecture, it is shown that the algorithm is resilient even in the most aggressive mode.

Abstract

We analyze the effect that numerical instabilities arising from the use of aggressive compilation optimization modes have on the performance of an evolutionary algorithm. Using two different C++ compilers with six optimization levels targeting the x86_64 architecture, it is shown that the algorithm is resilient even in the most aggressive mode.
