APPLICATION OF DIAPHRAGMATIC BREATHING EXERCISE ON BREATHING PATTERNS IS NOT EFFECTIVE IN PULMONARY TUBERCULOSIS PATIENTS

Background: Ineffective breathing patterns in pulmonary tuberculosis patients occur due to incomplete lung development conditions due to the affected part of the lung does not contain air or collapses. Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise is one of the therapies that is useful for relaxing the breathing muscles when doing deep inspiration, increasing alveolar ventilation, reducing breathing frequency, and helping to expel as much air as possible during expiration. Objective: To apply Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise to ineffective breathing patterns in pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang. Method: This study used a case study method on two patients by applying Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise to measure the patient's breathing rate during 3 days of treatment (May 22-24, 2024).Results: After being given DBE treatment, there was a change in respiratory frequency in Mr. RR before 30x/min to 23 and Mr. R RR before 32x/minute to 22x/min. Conclusion: Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise therapy can reduce dyspnea and respiratory frequency to be regular so that the patient's breathing pattern becomes effective in 3 days of treatment at Muhammadiyah Hospital Palembang. Suggestion: Researchers can then apply nursing care with other nursing problems, such as the application of Diaphragmatic Breathing Exercise to acute pain in pulmonary tuberculosis patients.
