Advancing Wave-Tide-Current Integrated Models: Enhancing Predictive Accuracy for Coastal and Marine Applications
Rogue waves pose serious threats to maritime safety, especially in Taiwan's typhoon-prone waters. Their formation is influenced by complex interactions between waves, tides, and currents, which are further modulated by bathymetry and meteorological forcing. To improve forecasting accuracy, this study develops a fully coupled wave-tide-current model that integrates the SCHISM hydrodynamic model with the WWMIII wave model, using a unified unstructured grid and synchronized time steps. The system incorporates real-time meteorological inputs and assimilates boundary conditions from global ocean models. Model validation using buoy and ADCP observations demonstrates improved simulation of wave-current dynamics, supporting enhanced operational forecasts for Taiwan's coastal regions.
