MMAE-Based DDoS Attack Detection and Mitigation Strategy in Virtual Power Plant
A VPP integrates multiple distributed energy re-sources (DERs) into a unified virtual entity and heavily relies on communication networks to manage operations. Controlling and mitigating distributed denial of service(DDoS) attacks in the context of Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) is crucial for advancing the resilience and reliability of these systems. The paper discusses the im-pact of DDoS attacks on voltage stability and presents various network traffic attack models. An entropy-based rate-limiting approach is suggested for (DDoS) attacks detection on control and communication channels between virtual power plants and distributed energy resources (DER). A DDoS attack mitigation strategy based on multiple model adaptive estimation (MMAE) has been proposed to achieve stable and reliable operation on control and communication channels in the presence of malicious traffic. Through MATLAB simulation work, the efficacy of the suggested approach for DDoS attack detection and mitigation has been confirmed.
