Switchless Bidirectional Amplifier For S-band Applications

S-band communication systems (2–4 GHz) play a vital role in radar, satellite communication, and phased-array applications, requiring efficient bidirectional signal transmission. Traditionally, switch-based bidirectional amplifiers (BDAs) have been used to enable signal flow in both directions, but these introduce insertion loss, increased power consumption, and circuit complexity due to the reliance on RF switches. To address these limitations, switchless bidirectional amplifiers eliminate switching components, reducing signal losses and enhancing overall system efficiency. This paper presents the design and analysis of switchless bidirectional amplifier optimized for S-band applications at 2.6 GHz. The amplifier achieves bidirectional operation through well-optimized impedance matching networks, ensuring minimal return loss and maximum power transfer. Simulation results validate that the designed amplifier achieves low reflection coefficients, high forward gain, and stable operation across the S-band. The findings contribute to the development of compact, high-performance RF front-end architectures, improving efficiency and reliability in modern wireless communication system.
