Seven Polarization Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Flexible Printed Circuits

This paper proposes a polarization reconfigurable antenna based on flexible printed circuits (FPC). The antenna features dipole pairs, with the arms of each pair staggered on the upper and lower surfaces of the substrate. A flexible circuit board is sandwiched between these substrates. A direct current (DC) bias is applied via the FPC to control the conductivity of each dipole pair, enabling seven distinct polarization shapes. The FPC-based polarized reconfigurable antenna is able to achieve a relative bandwidth of 26%(2.50-3.26 GHz) with a gain in the band of up to 2.94 dBi. Using a DC metal post to provide DC bias, the antenna has a relative bandwidth of 22 % (2.55-3.20 GHz), a gain of 3.01 dBi, and an increase in lateral dimension of 4 mm.
