Frequency 12-Tupled Optical MM-Wave Generation using Cascaded Dual-MZMs
Millimeter-wave (mm-wave) signal generation plays a pivotal role in enabling next-generation high-speed communication systems. This paper introduces an advanced photonic mm-wave generation approach through frequency 12-tupling, employing a cascaded structure of two Mach-Zehnder modulators (MZMs). The proposed scheme utilizes precise control of the modulation index, operating points and phase shifts to achieve an efficient frequency multiplication. Both theoretical analyses and numerical simulations are conducted to assess the system performance. The simulation results demonstrate that the system achieves an OSSR of 37.6 dB and RFSSR of 34.2 dB, demonstrating the high purity spectral generation. Moreover, the effect of varying the modulation index on the system’s performance in respect of OSSR and RFSSR is thoroughly analyzed. The findings substantiate the potential of the proposed 12-tupled scheme to generate mm-wave range frequencies, hence providing a scalable and efficient solution for future high-speed wireless communication systems.
