Revolutionary Heritage and Farmland Recultivation: Evidence from Sichuan-Shaanxi Old Revolutionary Area Households

To ensure food security, it is urgent to solve the problem of farmland abandonment. The old revolutionary base areas have become the focus of research because of their red resource endowment and high incidence of abandonment. This paper takes the old revolutionary base areas of Sichuan and Shaanxi as a sample, based on the questionnaire survey data of 284 farmers, and uses the discrete choice model to empirically test the impact of red resources on farmers ‘ re-farming behavior. The study found that red resources have a significant incentive effect on the land re-farming behavior of farmers in the old revolutionary base areas. This conclusion is still robust after a series of robustness tests. Heterogeneity analysis shows that the incentive effect of red resources on farmers ‘ re-farming is more obvious in counties with richer red resource endowments, stronger family beliefs and lower land fragmentation. This study explores the red cultural factors that affect farmers ‘ land use behavior, which provides decision-making reference for inheriting red culture and promoting the protection of cultivated land and the revitalization of rural culture in the old revolutionary base areas.
