A 0.9-ppm/°C 4.4-μA Bandgap Reference with High-Order Compensation

This paper presents a bandgap reference (BGR) circuit with a low temperature coefficient (TC) and a low quiescent current. The higher-order compensation structure consists of an exponential compensation circuit and a high-temperature compensation circuit. The innovative high-temperature compensation circuit has an adjustable startup temperature for precise compensation, which can significantly reduce the TC and it can reduce quiescent current by reusing the current of the reference core. The BGR circuit was fabricated by a 0.18-μm BCD process, with an active area of 460 μm × 480 μm. Experimental results demonstrate that the BGR achieves a low temperature coefficient of 0.9 ppm/°C over a temperature range of −55°C to 125°C. Additionally, at room temperature, a low quiescent current of 4.4 μA at 3.3 V power supply voltage can be achieved.
