Waveform Optimization Techniques for Energy Transfer Systems: A Novel Approach to Improving Performance

This article examines the impact of power-optimized waveforms (POW) on wireless power transfer (WPT) systems. It analyzes key system components and their influence on overall efficiency, with a particular focus on waveform selection and the effects of multipath channels. The RF-DC conversion efficiency (PCE) is determined by both internal and external factors of the RF-DC conversion circuit, with the waveform playing a critical role at low power levels. Results indicate that waveforms with a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) enhance PCE and extend transmission range compared to conventional sinusoidal waves. However, the propagation channel alters received waveforms, affecting RF-DC conversion performance. These modifications impact both range and energy efficiency. The study also investigates complex non-line-of-sight (NLOS) environments, demonstrating that optimized waveforms outperform continuous waves (CW) by distributing power across multiple frequencies. This capability improves performance in multipath conditions by reducing attenuation and interference. These findings underscore the importance of waveform optimization in enhancing WPT system efficiency, particularly in challenging environments.
