Time Difference of Arrival with Maximization-Minimization Using a Distributed Acoustic Sensors for AUV Geolocalization

The localization of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) remains a challenging task, particularly in underwater environments where traditional positioning systems are often limited. This paper presents a novel approach for AUV geolocalization using Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) technology. We firstly apply well-known Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) principle to estimate the distance of an AUV based on the acoustic signals received by multiple DAS nodes. Then in order to improve performance robustness against noise, we evaluate the so-called TMM based on apply both MaximizationMinimization (MM) framework. In this paper we of those algorithms on synthetical and real datasets.
