Estimation of Air Pollutant Density in Chennai Using Kernel Density Approach

This work focuses on estimation of pollution causing parameters such as particulate matter 2.5 (PM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2.5</inf>), sulfur dioxide (SO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>), nitrogen dioxide (NO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>), carbon monoxide (CO), and ground-level ozone (O<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf>). The air quality levels were determined based upon National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), India. The study was conducted for the period of JAN 2022 to APR 2024 using statistical analysis by the Kernel density distribution method. The analysis confirmed that the concentration of air pollutants (PM<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2.5</inf>, SO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>, NO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>, CO, and O<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf>) was at its peak during summer compared to other seasons in the year
