Surface Modified MIMO Antenna for 5G Indoor Base Stations
An eight-fold MIMO antenna system meant to be deployed in indoor 5G base stations is presented for n46 and n102 bands. Though several papers addressed indoor base station antenna operating in sub-6 GHz, very few work is reported for the high-end of the 5G mid-band extending from 5GHz to 7GHz. Along with the defected ground, a half-mode surface integrated waveguide structure is used to improve the overall performance. Reflection coefficient of the antenna varies from -10 to -45 dB over the entire operating frequency range and isolation is in the range of 20 to 85 dB. Footprint of antenna is 140×140 m<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$m2$</tex>. Almost unidirectional radiation pattern with a beam-width much wider than 60 degrees is obtained.
