A Study of Static Calibration Response Time Based on Type K Thin Film Thermocouple Versus Filament Thermocouple

This research investigates the limitations of national standard filament thermocouples in practical applications, particularly their large size, which makes it challenging to achieve effective placement in narrow or complex spaces. To address this issue, the research team has developed a significantly smaller, inhouse thin-film thermocouple. In order to thoroughly evaluate the performance of the new thin-film thermocouple, the team conducted a detailed comparison with the national standard filament thermocouples using a comparative experimental methodology over a temperature range of 20° C to 200° C. The results of this study demonstrate that the new thin-film thermocouple is suitable for a wide range of applications. Experimental findings show that the in-house developed film thermocouple exhibits highly consistent thermoelectric properties when compared to the national standard filament thermocouple. The results show that the average Seebeck coefficient of the homemade film thermocouple is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$39.447 \mu \mathrm{V} /{ }^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$</tex>, and that of the national standard filament thermocouple is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$39.508 \mu \mathrm{V} /{ }^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$</tex>, and the error of the two is only 0.15 %, which is basically the same thermoelectric performance. This finding not only validates the reliability of the thin-film thermocouple in terms of thermoelectric conversion efficiency but also highlights its superior performance in terms of accuracy. In addition, Type K thin-film thermocouples offer a number of significant advantages, including smaller size, greater placement flexibility, wider temperature range, and faster response time. These features make thin-film thermocouples show great potential for application in solving temperature measurement challenges in complex environments such as the interior of electric motors. In summary, this study has successfully developed a high-performance and compact thin-film thermocouple that provides a more efficient and accurate solution for temperature measurement in specific scenarios.
