Analyzing Effective Techniques for Mitigating the Impact of EV Charging on Distribution Grid Power Quality Issues
The integration of a large number of electric vehicle (EV) chargers into the power grid, particularly under fast charging scenarios, introduces several technical challenges, such as harmonic current generation, voltage distortions, and fluctuations beyond acceptable limits. Simultaneous fast charging by multiple EVs can significantly impact grid stability and power quality. This study investigates the use of passive tuned and detuned harmonic filters in combination with power electronics converters to enhance the performance of EV charging stations(FCS). A dedicated control method is proposed to address power quality concerns, specifically targeting the reduction of total harmonic distortion (THD) in both current and voltage. Additionally, the study evaluates the management of active and reactive power to ensure efficient energy delivery and grid stability. Simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed approach in maintaining THD within standard limits while improving overall power quality
