Analysis of IMC-PID Control Design for Dual Active Bridge Converter in EV Charging System

In modern power electronic systems, dual active bridge (DAB) converter is an important component particularly in electric vehicle (EV) charging applications, due to its ability to facilitate bidirectional power transfer, provide galvanic isolation, and deliver high efficiency. However, for achieving robust and dynamic control under varying operating conditions, remains a significant challenge for DAB converters. The traditional control methods, such as phase-shift modulation and proportional-integral (PI) controllers, often struggle to handle parameter uncertainties and transient responses effectively. To address these limitations, this paper addresses an internal model control (IMC) based PID control design for voltage regulation in DAB converters. The simulation results demonstrate significant improvement in time-domain response and robustness compared to the conventional control methods.
