Enhancing Vehicle Safety: An Arduino-Based Real-Time Collision Avoidance System Using Ultrasonic Sensors and Warning Alerts
This paper provides details about the design and operation of a Collision Avoidance System in smart cars, with the Arduino board as the central control unit, interfaced with an ultrasonic sensor, LEDs, and piezo buzzer mainly for the purposes of obstacle detection and alerting capabilities of collision. The ultrasonic sensor was powered by the Arduino board to emit ultrasonic sound pulses that measure the time taken for the echo to return and use this time taken to calculate the distance to an obstacle. Based on that calculated distance, the system activates signals to alert the user to the presence of an object. Yellow LED presents a possibly risky situation, while a red LED and piezo buzzer give an urgent warning when the obstacle is too close. The intensity or frequency of the buzzer changes with varying distances for further warning. This simple but efficient design acts as a primary safety setup to avoid collisions; this work can be extended for a variety of uses like robotics, automobile safety, and industrial systems. The effectiveness of this research work demonstrates that the sensor and output components are almost seamlessly integrated to provide a real-time collision avoidance mechanism. This integration ensures rapid and accurate obstacle detection and timely response to avert potential collisions.
