Safety Monitoring for Construction Workers Using RSSI
On-site accidents are typically caused by negligence or a lack of proper safety protocols and facilities, which can result in major injuries to employees and, in certain cases, fatalities because real-time accident monitoring is lacking. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial in lowering these incidents, but conventional PPEs are unable to provide warning signals in dangerous circumstances, hence smart technologies must be integrated with existing PPE. An infrared sensor, a Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040), a lithium ion cell 3V7 * 2, a 2S/4A charger PCB, a Neo GPS module (6M), an OLED display, a DHT11 sensor, a GSM module sim800l, and a MQ3 methane sensor are just a few of the sensors that are integrated into a standard safety helmet. These sensors are used to detect various parameters of working labourers, including body temperature, drowsiness, sound, gas leakage, and smoke concentration. After syncing the data from each sensor, the Raspberry Pi Pico (RP2040), which is linked to a GSM module, wirelessly transmits it over Bluetooth to the manager's or supervisor's mobile devices. In addition, the smart helmet has been configured to create and preserve the wearer's pay records. The manager or supervisor can then take appropriate action based on the hazard's severity. The findings of research and testing on this intelligent construction safety helmet have demonstrated its effectiveness in shielding workers from the many risks mentioned in the earlier assertion. Further investigation into this helmet could greatly improve its effectiveness.
