Flexible and Efficient False Target Generation for LFM Radar Using Reflection Coefficient Synthesis Method

Space-time modulated metasurfaces exploit the range-Doppler coupling of linear frequency modulated (LFM) radar systems to generate false targets in high-resolution range profiles (HRRPs). Nevertheless, the flexibility is constrained by the phase-reconfiguration of metasurface. In this paper, we aim to enhance the flexibility and efficiency by introducing reflection coefficient synthesis method. The ideal reflection coefficient of a 2-bit metasurface is regarded as the basis functions in the complex plane. Through vector analysis, we obtain the accurate space-time coding, which enables the easy and accurate control of the quantity, amplitude and distance offset of the false targets. Finally, numerical simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
