FoodBridge: Connecting Surplus to Need
Food wastage is one of the major problems in this modern world, with substantial amounts of edible food being discarded daily by restaurants, hotels, college canteens, and other social events. For this problem, there should be an innovative and efficient solution. “FoodBridge: Connecting Surplus to Need” is an internet-based application that bridges surplus food to its receiving end. The platform allows restaurants, hotels, and other donors to donate surplus food to orphanages and old-age homes, ensuring that it reaches those in need. The application will function as a network-based application, wherein orphanages and similar organizations can detail their food requirements, while donors will notify the surpluses they have. Once the recipient is notified, recipient can accept the donation as per their needs. This system integrates donors and recipients via a smooth and user-friendly interface; therefore, manual effort in the donation process is minimized, and efficiency is enhanced. This project not only helps in reducing food waste but also promotes a culture of sharing and sustains vulnerable communities. The paper considers the design and function of the system and its social impact, hence portraying its potential as a scalable model meant to positively respond to global food insecurity.
