A Low-Power, Low-Noise, Compact Receiver for L and S Band Satellite Communication

This paper presents a low-power, low-noise and compact satellite communication receiver design suitable for <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$L$</tex> and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$S$</tex> bands based on SMIC 55 nm technology. The design adopts a Low-Noise Transconductance Amplifier (LNTA) priority architecture combined with a first-order Transimpedance Amplifier (TIA), a second-order Chebyshev filter, and a resistor-based negative feedback Programmable Gain Amplifier (PGA) to achieve a wide range of gain adjustment. The introduction of a threestage DC Offset Cancellation (DCOC) circuit and a prefilter improves linearity and noise performance. When processing signals as low as −128 dBm, Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology achieves a Carrier-to-Noise (<tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathrm{C} / \mathrm{N}$</tex>) ratio of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$39 ~\text{dB} / \text{Hz}$</tex>, with a noise figure of less than 3.2 dB. The design achieves a maximum gain of 58 dB and a dynamic range of 48 dB. The in-band ThirdOrder Intercept Point (OIP3) reaches 33 dBm, while the out-of-band Second-/Third-Order Intercept Points (IIP2/IIP3) are <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$45 /-11 \text{dBm}$</tex>, respectively. The total power consumption is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{3 6. 4 ~ m W}$</tex> within an area of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\mathbf{1. 2} \mathbf{~ m m}^{\mathbf{2}}$</tex>.
