Riverbank revitalization of the Latorica River, Mukachevo

A comprehensive evaluation of the Latorica River embankment is crucial to comprehend its urban and environmental importance and to investigate potential rehabilitation solutions. The principal elements in this analysis encompass historical context, urban growth, accessibility, and international case studies of riverfront integration. Historically, the riverbanks of Mukachevo have experienced limited enhancements, without substantial interventions designed to promote public access or urban connectedness. A major obstacle to rebuilding is the existing condition of infrastructure, encompassing densely populated residential zones adjacent to the river, transportation networks, and flood defense systems. The objective of this study is to identify critical areas, assess existing limitations, and propose feasible architectural interventions to improve the relationship between the city and the river. Given the constraints posed by past developments and natural factors, the analysis also considers alternative approaches to enhance the river’s role within the urban landscape while preserving its ecological balance.
