Left Internal Carotid Artery Thrombosis in Mucormycosis Following COVID-19: A Case Report
The COVID-19 infection during the second wave gripped many patients worldwide. We present a case of mucormycosis in which the patient developed left Internal Carotid Artery (ICA) thrombosis. She was a known case of diabetes mellitus type 2 and Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) with a stent. She survived for eight months after being diagnosed with left ICA thrombosis. The hypercoagulable state associated with COVID-19 infection has been associated with higher ischaemic stroke. The superadded invasive mucormycosis infection also leads to an increased incidence of thrombosis. Our case report brings forth a clinical scenario where the patient survived COVID-19, invasive fungal infection, and left ICA thrombosis. The patient was followed-up till survival.
