Literature review on Spatial Big Data (SBD) to improve road safety
Defined as large, complex data, Big Data (BD) is used in many fields and offers many benefits. Some of the areas where BD is used include marketing, healthcare, education, environment, security, and transportation. BD comes from a variety of sources and can be of different types. For example, some of this data comes from objects distributed in time and space, such as navigation maps, mobile object itineraries, or information from social networking services (SNS). All of this data makes up what is known as Spatial Big Data (SBD), which is one of the main drivers of BD. SBDs, which include geolocated data from a variety of sources, offer significant potential for improving traffic management. However, in some countries, such as Senegal, the use of SBD remains marginal, particularly for solving road safety problems.
