Repair verification of glass fibre reinforced resin matrix composites by vacuum-assisted wet-molding technique

Abstract Glass fiber-reinforced resin matrix composites have been widely used in the aviation industry due to their superior properties. However, the components were unavoidably damaged by the different impacts in their application, which would result in the composite components’ performance degradation and threaten the aircraft’s safety. To improve the repair quality of the damaged composite components, a vacuum-assisted wet-molding repair process was proposed for the reparation based on the analysis of traditional processes. The experimental results show that a dense micro-structure can be obtained in the repair area, and the energy absorption was significantly improved compared with the traditional adhesive method.
