Design and Implementation of a Data Acquisition System for Rocket Motor Testing and Performance Analysis
A Data Acquisition (DAQ) system is designed to capture real-time data from various sensors to ensure that a rocket motor performs within specified limits. This data is transmitted and stored for analysis, allowing engineers to evaluate the motor’s behavior, assess its safety and performance, and identify potential issues before launch. This paper explores the design, implementation, and performance analysis of the Ramblin’ Rocket Club (RRC) DAQ system, emphasizing its role in ensuring the safety and reliability of rocket propulsion systems during testing. Specifically, the study examines the hardware and software components of the RRC DAQ system and their effectiveness in capturing critical motor parameters. The system was tested during multiple static rocket motor tests, where sensors were strategically placed on the motor to measure pressure, load, and temperature. Data was collected at high frequencies, transmitted in real-time, and stored locally for offline analysis. This information was then visualized and processed through a specialized post-test analysis dashboard to identify trends and anomalies. The RRC DAQ system successfully collected real-time pressure, load, and temperature data with high accuracy and minimal sensor drift. Further data analysis revealed thrust variations and chamber pressure anomalies, indicating potential performance issues that could impact motor reliability. This study underscores the critical role of a robust DAQ system in rocket motor testing by enabling real-time monitoring and detailed post-test analysis. Ultimately, the system enhances safety, performance, and reliability in rocket propulsion, reducing risks and contributing to the success of space missions.
