Study on the ultrasonic coupled mechanical linear cutting of rock

Abstract In this paper, the ultrasonic coupled mechanical cutting technology is studied to improve the efficiency of rock cutting and reduce the mechanical load. Aiming at the propagation mechanism of stress waves inside rocks during the process of rock cutting by ultrasonic coupling and mechanical coupling, and addressing the differences between the effects of coupled rock cutting and single rock cutting, as well as the lack of detailed descriptions of the characteristics of coupled rock cutting in existing studies, this paper first establishes a dynamic model of rock cutting by ultrasonic coupling and mechanical coupling, describes the distribution of the stress field inside rocks under the coupling action, and analyzes the difference in cutting force under the two working conditions. The core innovation of this ultrasonic coupled mechanical cutting technology lies in its ability to synergistically combine high-frequency ultrasonic stress waves with mechanical forces, achieving a “pre-fracture-guided cutting” mechanism. Through controlled modulation of ultrasonic parameters, the method significantly reduces cutting resistance by 30-50%, suppresses tool vibration amplitudes by over 40%, and enhances energy utilization efficiency by more than 20% compared to conventional mechanical cutting, as evidenced by preliminary experiments.
