Aerodynamic Performance Enhancement of Co-Flow Jet Airfoil with Metamorphic Wing Mechanism

In this work, the performance enhancement of a Co-Flow Jet airfoil with Metamorphic Wing Characteristics is analyzed. These are two, quite different and relatively novel methods of controlling the airflow around an airfoil through an energy input to the boundary layer and in-flight control of wing geometry, respectively. The benefits of the combination of these flow control methods is clear for many cases, specifically for takeoff and landing. The experimental data is collected and validated in comparison with the CFD simulations. Although consistent and notable error is present, attributed to the wind tunnel data acquisition equipment used, the data still proves useful with the trendlines and clear discrepancies between the airfoils lift and drag forces. Further experimental testing should be conducted with more accurate equipment in order to solidify the results.
