Exploring the Safety Concerns of the V-22 Osprey
The V-22 Osprey, a military aircraft that uses tilt-rotor technology, faces many complications during flights, which results in crashes, destroying equipment, and taking the lives of those on board. As a result of the casualties, the military has grounded the Ospreys multiple times to conduct assessments before allowing them back into operation. Despite these drawbacks, no other aircraft can operate with the same performance as the Osprey, resulting in the military struggling to replace them. The Osprey’s objective encompasses transporting people, supplies, and equipment long distances for missions and training. Through published articles reporting the findings from the investigations of the V-22 Osprey failures, it is concluded that the faults lie in improper maintenance and human error. This paper will explore the various safety concerns regarding the gearboxes controlling the nacelles, maintenance, stalling, inadequate flight training, and control issues.
