Adaptive mesh refinement of synthetic jet in NACA0025 airfoil
Synthetic jet actuator is an active flow control (AFC) device for the purpose of flow separation control in low Reynolds number airfoils. While passive flow control devices use stationary flow control devices such as vortex generators and trip wires, AFC uses periodically excited devices for flow separation suppression. The main effects of AFC is decrease in drag and increase in lift, and the design of the synthetic jet actuator include various parameters such as synthetic jet actuator location, blowing ratio, forcing frequency, and momentum coefficient. Despite the blade optimization attempt done by Duvigneau et al., and boundary condition study done by Tousi et al., the synthetic jet actuator is a still an area of study due to its engineering potentials.
