Steam corrosion behavior of rare earth multi-component glass ceramics modified SiCf/SiC composites

In this work, SiC f /SiC composites are modified by (Y 0.25 Yb 0.25 Er 0.25 Ho 0.25 ) 2 Si 2 O 7 ((4RE 0.25 ) 2 Si 2 O 7 ), and compacted by RE 2 O 3 -Al 2 O 3 -SiO 2 -B 2 O 3 -Cr 2 O 3 glass (or simply RBCAS glass. RE=Y, Yb, Er, Ho, equimolar ratios), which can separate out mullite and (4RE 0.25 ) 2 Si 2 O 7 after infiltration. After being corroded in steam environment for 100 h at 1300 ºC, the internal morphology of modified SiC f /SiC composites remained excellent stability due to the blocking effect of the modified phase. In particular, there is no new phase was formed in the modified matrix of SS-R and SS-HR composites, only the (4RE 0.25 ) 2 Si 2 O 7 and mullite crystals grew. The strength retention rate of modified SiC f /SiC composites after high-temperature steam corrosion was about 82.8 %, which is higher than that of SiC f /SiC composites prepared by CVI process (70.7 %). This rare earth multi-component microcrystalline glass has excellent resistance to steam corrosion and can be used as modified material of SiC f /SiC composites.
