Exploring the Metric Systems of Medieval New Towns in Central Europe: Reconstruction of Urban Plot Scheme Using Cosine Quantogram and Modular Analysis

ABSTRACT This study examines plot divisions and units of measurement in regular medieval new towns in Central Europe, with a particular focus on historical Silesia. By applying the cosine quantogram method alongside GIS‐referenced cartographic sources and modular analysis, the research reconstructs the spatial organization of urban layouts. The results reveal the diversity of measurement systems used in town planning. By integrating historical records with digital approaches, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of medieval metrological practices and demonstrates the method's effectiveness in reconstructing spatial structures and its potential for broader applications in historical urbanism.
