Zero Trust Security: Overcoming Obstacles and Leveraging Best Practices
Organizations are facing a new challenge on how to keep their data safe because everyone and everything is going to the cloud. Data that has been seamlessly secured within the four walls of the data center becomes complex to manage in a multi-cloud environment. So, how can one identify who or what can be trusted? The best defense mechanism is to eliminate default trust, instead enforcing authorization and continuous verification for every user, request, and device validity before granting access. Incorporating strict validations, organizations are protected from a wide range of threats, including insider risk, persistent attacks, and supply chain compromise attempts. Outstanding literature has been presented addressing industrial frameworks and case studies. This paper presented a corresponding shift from trust based security to Zero Trust Security, emphasizing its robustness to evolving threats in society. The paper also aimed to serve as a road map to companies eager and willing to migrate to the Zero Trust framework by unraveling the challenges and best practices in the implementation of Zero Trust Security.
