A Multi-Electrode Series-Connected Magnetoelectric Sensor for Weak Magnetic Field Detection

Magnetoelectric (ME) sensors hold significant potential in detecting weak magnetic fields. In this paper, we present a multi-electrode series-connected magnetoelectric sensor composed of PZT-5H and Metglas, designed to enhance the magnetoelectric voltage coefficient from 15.72 V/Oe to 26.84 V/Oe with a 70.7 % improvement while reducing the limit of detection (LOD) from 4.39 pT to 1.11 pT, all without altering the sensor's size. Finite element simulations are employed to explain the increase in the voltage coefficient, with the simulation results closely matching the experimental findings. This novel design offers an effective approach for improving the sensitivity of magnetoelectric sensors, magnetoelectric antennas, etc.
