Broadside/Endfire mmWave Integrated Antenna Array for Ground and Satellite Communication

A broadside/endfire mm-wave integrated antenna array with high gain and beam-scanning performance is presented in this conference. The antenna array consists of a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$1 \times 4$</tex> broadside antenna array and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$1 \times 4$</tex> endfire antenna array. The dual-band dual-polarized antenna is applied for broadside radiation and a wideband antenna is applied for endfire radiation. The endfire and broadside antenna are both adopted the differential feeding method which is realized by the stripline (microstrip) wideband 180° phase shifters. The multi-layer substrate is employed to realize the integration of the antenna and the feeding network. Thus, the antenna array can support the unbalanced and balanced radio frequency (RF) module. Furthermore, the simulated and measured results the proposed broadside/endfire antenna array shows that the proposed antenna array can cover the 24.25-29.5 GHz and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$37.5-43.5\ \text{GHz}$</tex> at broadside radiation and <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$24.25-43.5$</tex> GHz at endfire radiation, with the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\left\vert \mathrm{S}_{11}\right\vert <-10\ \text{dB}$</tex>. And the array exhibits the high-gain and beam-scanning performance. Therefore, the proposed broadside/endfire antenna array is suitable for future ground and satellite mobile wireless communication.
