A Comparative Study of Buck-Boost and Čuk DC/DC Converters: Topologies, Performance, and Applications
DC/DC converters are critical components in modern power electronics, facilitating efficient voltage regulation and energy conversion. Among the diverse topologies, Buck-Boost and Čuk converters are particularly notable for their ability to perform both step-up and step-down voltage conversion. This paper conducts a comprehensive comparative study of Buck-Boost and Čuk DC/DC converters, examining their topologies, operating principles, performance characteristics, and application suitability. Through mathematical analysis and simulation results, the study evaluates key metrics such as efficiency, voltage conversion ratio, and ripple characteristics, highlighting the advantages and limitations of each converter. The findings offer valuable insights for selecting the optimal converter based on specific application requirements, particularly in renewable energy systems and other power management scenarios. This analysis underscores the distinct operational and control strategies of the two converters, providing a foundation for informed decision-making in power electronics design.
