Recent Advances in Coherent Optical Transmission Systems
This, among other reasons, explains the fundamental importance of coherent optical transmission systems. This technology has revolutionized high-speed communication networks and enabled quickly transmitting vast amounts of data over great distances. This has been long overdue as we need high bandwidth & small systems in the last few years. This well-designed detection scheme leads to a striking performance enhancement for optical transmission systems through coherence detection. Such techniques employ sophisticated digital signal processing algorithms to extract the transmitted information from the optical signal, allowing for improved levels of sensitivity and performance. This has permitted coherent systems to work over longer distances and with higher data rates, giving life to the long-haul and metro regions of the network. Other innovations have also been coherent system realizations at broader frequency bands, such as C-band, L-band, and a new E-ban. This has improved the duty cycle of these methods and facilitated extended spectrum usage. Additionally, the ASIC's redundancy has resulted in smaller and cheaper coherent transceivers.
