Modmax black holes and the fate of event horizons

This paper investigates the laws of thermodynamics and the persistence of event horizons in the context of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) for ModMax black holes, considering the absorption of a charged particle in both the normal and extended phase spaces. In the normal phase space, the first and second laws of thermodynamics and the fate of the horizon support the validity of the WCCC. In the extended phase space, while the first law and the fate of the horizon uphold the conjecture for all black holes, the second law is found to be violated for double-horizon black holes and certain single-horizon black holes. Additionally, we demonstrate that the shift in the metric function, which determines the fate and location of the horizon, takes an identical form at the minimum point in both the normal and extended phase spaces. This indicates that the WCCC is independent of the thermodynamic phase space.
