RF to THz Frequency Conversion Using Nanoscale Plasmonic Crystals

Resonant plasmonic crystals implemented using graphene, InGaAs, III-N, and p-diamond grating gate field effect transistor (FET) structures could operate even at room temperature. Recent experimental data and theoretical analysis showed that mode anticrossings in such structures lead to parabolic dispersion at the anticrossings point. We show that this enables a strong nonlinear parametric resonance that supports radio frequency (RF) to terahertz (THz) frequency conversion.

Abstract

Resonant plasmonic crystals implemented using graphene, InGaAs, III-N, and p-diamond grating gate field effect transistor (FET) structures could operate even at room temperature. Recent experimental data and theoretical analysis showed that mode anticrossings in such structures lead to parabolic dispersion at the anticrossings point. We show that this enables a strong nonlinear parametric resonance that supports radio frequency (RF) to terahertz (THz) frequency conversion.
