Mitigating Crosstalk Delay in CNT Based VLSI Interconnects

This research investigates the efficacy of innovative carbon nanotube (CNT)-based interconnects combined with a passively protected multilayer graphene nanoribbon (MLGNR) layer. The study aims to reduce generated crosstalk and latency in a three-line capacitively coupled carbon nanotube interconnect design at the 14 nm technology node. Equivalent single conductor (ESC) transmission line models for carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and multi-layer graphene nanoribbons (MLGNRs) are utilized to assess propagation delay at the terminal of the victim line using SPICE simulations. A comparison study is performed between standard square CNT (SQCNT) bundles and newly suggested triangular CNT (T-CNT) bundles, examining both shielded and non-shielded topologies as a function of temperature. The findings reveal that the normalized delay and power delay product (PDP) for shielded triangular CNT bundles are always lower than shielded square shaped CNT bundles. Also, the results obtained for 300 K to 500 K, shielded one SQCNT or TCNT is showing less delay as compared to TCNT. These findings demonstrate that T-CNT shielded bundles are superior connectivity options, displaying the minimal generated delay and power delay product.
