Design of a High-Load Foam Support for Electromagnetic Testing
To meet the load-bearing requirements for large targets in electromagnetic (EM) testing, a low-scattering foam support was designed using expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam as the base material. The structure adopts a stacked layered design, consisting of four layers, each bonded from 4 – 5 strip-shaped foam blocks. Testing demonstrated that the foam support could bear a load of 10.4 tons without plastic deformation. Numerical simulations revealed that the support's statistical linear mean radar cross-section (RCS) was −26.79 dBsm over the <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$0.3-40$</tex> GHz frequency range. The design meets the specifications for practical deployment.
