Phytogenic Generation of TIO 2 Nanoparticles as Green‐Electrode Material for High‐Performance Supercapacitor Applications
Herein, a simple, cost‐effective, one‐step green synthesis of titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO 2 ‐NPs) from Aristolochia bracteata (AB) leaf distillate is reported for supercapacitor applications. The plant extract‐derived TiO 2 ‐NPs exhibit an exceptional half‐cell specific capacitance of 476 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . The naturally occurring phytochemicals in the AB distillate have been utilized as reducing agents for the synthesis of TiO 2 ‐NPs. The average size of 10–20 nm TiO 2 ‐NPs has been formed, which is confirmed by XRD studies. The electron microscopic techniques of the as‐prepared TiO 2 ‐NPs reveal crystalline agglomeration surface morphology with evident lattice fringes on the edges of the surface, indicating high crystallinity. The three‐electrode configuration of the as‐fabricated TiO 2 electrode material in an alkaline medium delivers half‐cell gravimetric specific capacitance of 476 F g −1 at 1 A g −1 . The individual TiO 2 ‐NPs are subjected to cycling study for about 2500 charging–discharging, exhibiting ≈100% capacitance retention. The asymmetric supercapacitor device (ASC) fabricated in button‐type cells (CR2032) with the TiO 2 ‐electrode delivers a gravimetric full‐cell specific‐capacitance of 30.16 F g −1 and an energy density of 38 Wh kg −1 at 1 A g −1 with power density of ≈9600 W kg −1 at 10 A g −1 . The life cycle study of the fabricated ASC device subjected to 10 000 charge–discharge cycles delivers 98% capacitance retention, over these cycles. From these significant results, it can be suggested that these types of electrode materials derived from plant distillates can be as the green‐electrode material for next‐generation supercapacitor devices.
